What is socialism anyway?

Everyone talks about it but what are they actually saying when they use the word?

One thing is for sure, until recently, if you called yourself one your were putting a target on your back.

It turns out that socialism is as American as apple pie. In fact, May Day which is celebrated throughout the Leftist world, started in Chicago.

Everytime socialism ideas rear their head, Big Business goes after them: the late 19th century, after WW I, during the Depression, in the 1960s, and of course Occupy Wall Street. (In the last example, the FBI sat back and did nothing when it learned that there was a plot of assassinated Occupy Wall Street leaders.)
