Novelist speculated that life is a computer program

If you’re familiar with the work of novelist (aka “science fiction writer”) Philip K. Dick, then you’re familiar with his position on this matter and probably can’t help but notice how similar it is to the conclusions drawn in this documentary.

What’s remarkable – whether or not this theory has any basis in reality – is that Dick anticipated developments in modern physics by thirty years and that he first publicly expressed this thought back in 1977 when “computer” meant a mainframe and only a few dozen crazed hobbyists were thinking in terms of personal computers for the masses.

Here’s an excerpt of the talk he gave in 1977. Many, including those close to him, considered him mad for expressing these ideas.
